When I was growing up, my father refused to let us have a TV set.  Instead, we listened to a radio station that broadcasted from Berkeley, California, called KPFA.  (One of my father’s friends was some kind of electrical engineering guru, and fixed us up with an antenna so that we could listen to the station even though we lived more than a hundred miles away, in Monterey.)

KPFA was one of the first (maybe even THE first) radio stations that had no commercials.  It relied on listener support, and had a fantastic repetoire that included classical and jazz music, as well as news from around the world, interviews and commentaries by socialists, peace and anti-war folks and other people who are now called progressives, but were called everything from beatniks to communists back then.  I got a great education listening to KPFA every night while my classmates were suffering years of brainwashing by the MSM, until some of them finally threw off some of it in the sixties.

Radio is still a great medium for enlightened communication, and  KPFA is still alive.  (Now, it is part of the Pacifica network which has stations in LA, Houston and New York.)

These are a few radio stations that offer news and views you won’t hear on the MSM (mainstream media, or–as a friend calls it–the “lamestream media.”)  As with everything that is spoken or written, you should, “Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.”  In other words, like everything else, you should subject everything broadcast, even on these stations, to critical examination.

It’s the only way to defend your brain.

And then, when you do, let us know what you think.
